Win Tickets for Spring Thaw!

20 Mar

Remember the wonderful food and drink event I told you about on Monday?

The one where 23 Canadian chefs and 12 Ontario winemakers are getting together at Palais Royale in Toronto, on March 31, 2014, to create a gigantic celebratory meal to mark the start of spring?

Well I’m excited to share that I have a pair of tickets to give away for Spring Thaw, value: $350.

You have until midnight on Sunday 23 March to enter. One winner will be chosen by a random-selection app and announced on Monday 24 March. (The prize does not include accommodation or travel, so please bear this in mind if you’re entering from outside Greater Toronto).

This Spring Thaw contest, run in partnership with the Canadian Chefs’ Congress, is open to subscribers to Open Kitchen only, so make sure you’ve signed up for e-mail notifications on the home page. And to enter the contest, simply leave a comment on this post saying why Spring 2014 can’t come quick enough for you.

Spring cannot come soon enough! I want to be out cycling on a regular basis again, and I want to plant my allotment garden. I got sick last fall when it was time to plant my garlic, so it’s been sitting in a paper bag inside a plastic bag in my fridge all winter, and I’m hoping it will be good to plant very soon now.

Spring that can’t come quick enough for me because I’m cold, I need fresh produce and I’m too busy to run off to Thailand.

Spring needs to come FAST. My pigs have made a massive manure pile, the ducks and chickens have lots of dirty bedding. I’m surrounded by poop and muck from all animals. I need a major spring clean up and backyard makeover from brown to green!

Spring can’t come quick enough because I want to be able to sit on my porch, eat a salad and a glass of wine without catching hypothermia!

I am now 3 hours in to the first day of spring and even though the snow is still pilled high I am enjoying visions of flower blossoms, fresh produce and cooking in the open air.

The Spring Thaw can’t come soon enough because I’ve got lots of recipes I want to make that require seasonal ingredients that only come with the arrival of tulips, bunnies, and Easter Eggs 😉

Spring 2014 can’t come quick enough for me because I lost in winter magic and can’t find the way back, may be true love?

Spring 2014 can’t come quick enough for me because pushing a stroller through the cold and snow every day to get my 4 year old son to and from JK has taken a toll on me. I’m officially DONE with Winter 2013/2014! Good riddance I say. 🙂

Spring 2014 can’t come soon enough because I’m craving a glass of wine and something delicious on a sunny patio, who doesn’t like that?

  21. Nancy March 21st, 2014 at 2:10 AM #

Spring can’t come soon enough because this winter has been extremely long, unforgiving and arduous. It’s time for old man winter to let go, for the sap to run, and the ramps and fiddleheads grow. I can’t even begin to express how lovely it will be to have springs bounty this year!

  22. Devon Taylor March 21st, 2014 at 11:21 AM #

Spring and warm weather can’t come soon enough because I see my family and friends way more in nicer weather! Sunny days make for fun road trips, amazing cottage weekends, and exciting outings here in the city or out in the country!

  23. Charles T. March 21st, 2014 at 12:29 PM #

Yay for the Spring thaw. Yay for spring food, (like hot dogs at ball games).

  24. Sandy Trojansek March 21st, 2014 at 12:46 PM #

I waited forever for spring to arrive! Winter was horribly cold and long. I need to get back outside and start training for some races I’m signing up for this spring/summer! 🙂 (we need to thaw out ASAP!)

  25. Michelle Walker March 21st, 2014 at 1:48 PM #

While spring has now officially sprung it sure doesn’t feel like daffodils, tulips, trilliums and crocuses are ready to emerge from the frozen tundra just yet. Spring 2014 cannot come some enough as I can hardly wait for everyone (myself included) to emerge from hibernation and soak up some serious sunshine.

  28. Lori B. March 21st, 2014 at 2:18 PM #

Spring can’t come quickly enough because I can’t go much longer without sinking my hands into the garden earth! Today I shoveled the remaining snow in my backyard into the patches of sun so it would melt faster!

  29. Laura March 21st, 2014 at 3:30 PM #

spring can’t come quick enough, I am tired of having to wear winter boots, I wore them so much this year I might have to buy a new pair for next year

  30. Sam Ravenda March 21st, 2014 at 3:45 PM #

Spring can’t come fast enough as I look out the window at my urban garden and dream of all the delicious things I can grow.

Spring can’t come soon enough! Looking forward to the start of baseball season and the Jays home opener.

  32. Stephanie Brewster March 21st, 2014 at 5:11 PM #

As much as I love my comfort foods to get me through the winter months, I am dying to get my hands on an abundance of spring produce! I want plates full of colour and texture. Lighter meals with a crisp white wine and I am in heaven…..

  33. Julie Carter March 21st, 2014 at 7:16 PM #

Spring can’t come soon enough because…..well it can! The thaw is on! We feel it just around the corner as the snow has (for the moment perhaps) melted off the roads this morning and perhaps this past Monday was the final snow day for our kids in Simcoe County. We adore winter and time to rest but we are ready to begin again. It’s time!

  34. Jean H. March 22nd, 2014 at 7:43 AM #

I can start running again. My shoulders and neck won’t be so tight from shivering from the cold. And also means new growth, a new cycle of life.

  35. heather March 22nd, 2014 at 10:01 AM #

I think we all need a spring thaw!

  36. Alison A March 22nd, 2014 at 10:24 AM #

spring can’t come soon enough because I don’t really remember a day without a minus sign in front of the temperature….

  37. Natalka Markulyn March 22nd, 2014 at 2:27 PM #

Spring 2014 can’t come quick enough for me because there is just an incredible sense of joy that comes from seeing new growth of buds on the trees, flowers springing up out of the earth, the sound of baby birds happily chirping. Everything feels invigorating! The energy you can take from that growth is inspiring.

Living just north and east of Toronto, we are a couple weeks behind, and i am dying to see the first sprout of garlic. my fav thing in the spring is Forsythia and i need to see those colors

Spring 2014 cannot come early enough because I am counting down the days to plant in the garden and grow sun warmed tomatoes. When I first learned to walk I followed my dad out to the tomato patch and I long for my hands digging in loose warm rich soil. I long for the first sightings of trilliums on the walk home from work, the murmurings of poems as we sit out and enjoy the light in our courtyard with friends, and most of all that first taste of extra light maple syrup- the kind that you can only get for a short time… ahhh- the taste and feel of spring.

  40. Steve March 23rd, 2014 at 8:49 AM #

I can’t wait for spring to come, not for the scent of fresh earth, not for the longer days, not for early flowers and blossoms… No, why I really can’t wait for spring to come is that I love winter, and I’m tired of people complaining about it.

  41. dians March 23rd, 2014 at 12:33 PM #

    Bring on the thaw

  42. Cheryl March 23rd, 2014 at 12:35 PM #

The best part of spring’s arrival is hopping on my bike and not getting off until November. Cycling for fun and for transportation makes life a little sweeter.

  43. Laura March 23rd, 2014 at 4:40 PM #

Spring can’t come quick enough for me because my sailboat goes in the water next month and I don’t have an icebreaker on the front. Also, I lost my mittens yesterday and refuse to buy another pair until next winter. I froze my hands when I went outside today.

  44. Heather Newell March 23rd, 2014 at 5:07 PM #

Spring can’t come fast enough so I can put on pretty shoes and dresses again, and hop on my bike every day!

  45. Nicole March 23rd, 2014 at 9:37 PM #

Spring 2014 can’t come quick enough so that my local farmers market re-opens and yummy local spring produce becomes available!
