Who Will Be Toronto’s First Tin Chef?

24 Jan

I just spent the evening making an audition video for Tin Chef.

Tin Chef is like Iron Chef, only it’s a cooking contest for non-professionals, hence the less fancy metal. The inaugural showdown is happening at Mildred’s Temple Kitchen, on February 5, before a live audience, as part of Toronto’s Winterlicious dining festival.

The video is for my pal Deborah Brewster, whom you may remember from here, here, here and here!

I would enter Tin Chef myself, only I have mini-meltdowns even just cooking for friends, if something doesn’t turn out exactly as planned. And I go fetal even thinking about cooking in front of strangers to the sound of a ticking clock. That’s why I convinced Deborah to enter. She is an incredibly creative cook and baker, who has developed her own recipes for everything from cardamom-and-orange ice cream to black-cake torte to parsnip-and-pear soup. She’s lioness-brave under pressure, and basically the more people who’re watching her at any given time, the more entertaining she gets.

So here’s Deb’s entry… fingers crossed!

Do you think Deborah has what it takes to be Toronto’s first Tin Chef?

I think Deborah has what it takes to be Tin Chef! So far she ticks all the boxes and it will be interesting to see if her cooking matches her confident and sunny personality.
